How it works

How Expertise Legibility works

Whether we are assessing a person or an organisation, the principle is the same: compare what you want to be known for with what AI-powered systems can actually find and understand today.

Expertise Legibility turns that comparison into findings you can act on.

The assessment process

Six steps from intention to action

Tell us what should be recognised

Define the expertise, capabilities, positioning or areas that should be clear. In the Individual assessment, a short guided questionnaire takes a few minutes.

We establish the right identity

EL first makes sure it is assessing the correct person or organisation. If we cannot be sure, we say so.

We examine what AI can find

Several AI-powered systems research the public information they can retrieve and interpret.

We compare intention with visibility

EL compares what should be recognised with what is actually coming through in the public picture.

  1. missing
  2. visible
  3. legible

We assess Expertise Legibility

The findings come together across Findability, Clarity, Target alignment, Credibility and Consistency.

You see what to strengthen

The result shows what is clear, what is missing or uncertain, and where stronger public evidence could help.

What Expertise Legibility looks at
Findability
Can AI-powered systems find the right person or organisation and the expertise they want to be known for?
Clarity
Can AI-powered systems understand what the person or organisation does and what expertise or capabilities it has?
Target alignment
Does the visible public picture match what the person or organisation wants to be recognised for?
Credibility
Is that picture supported by credible and relevant public evidence?
Consistency
Do the public sources form a coherent picture without genuine factual or positioning conflicts?

How we treat evidence

EL uses public information only. Private or sign-in-only material is not treated as evidence.

Identity and attribution are checked before information can support a finding or result.

Information about another person or entity never influences the assessment.

If information cannot be retrieved, that is never treated as proof that it does not exist. A limitation on our side is not turned into a deficiency on yours.

What the assessment shows

An Expertise Legibility assessment brings together what AI-powered systems can find and understand about the subject, compares that with what the person or organisation wants to be recognised for, and shows where the gaps are.

What is coming through clearly
The expertise, capabilities or positioning AI can already recognise.
What is unclear or missing
Areas where the public picture is difficult to understand or incomplete.
Where the evidence is strong or weak
How well important claims are supported by credible public information.
Where the Expertise Legibility Gap sits
The difference between intended positioning and what AI can find and understand today.
What to strengthen
Practical areas where clearer or stronger public evidence could help.

For Individuals: scored assessments include an overall 0–10 result across the five dimensions. If identity or evidence cannot support a responsible score, the assessment returns a Foundational outcome instead.

What AI can and cannot see

Public professional or organisational content on social platforms can sometimes be found when it is accessible on the open web.

Access and indexing vary by platform and system. Private or sign-in-only content is never treated as public evidence. Social profiles should not be the only place where important expertise or capabilities are documented.

An important limitation

AI-powered search systems can return information that is incomplete, outdated or incorrect. EL compares information from several systems and applies evidence rules, but errors can still happen.

Please check important information before you act on it.
